Our Story

Hospitality & Authentic Recipes

Managed with love and dedication by the owner Andrea Carcano, C'era una volta Ristò is a cozy dining haven celebrating the culinary heritage of our territory.

Our cuisine combines great Lombard classics based on rich meats — such as our game and traditional "bruscitt" beef — with fresh seafood dishes prepared with lightness and balance, and a selection of long-leavened pizzas baked to perfection in our oven.

Every ingredient is selected with respect for seasonality and prioritizing local producers in the Varese province and Lombardy region, bringing genuine flavors to the table in a warm, familiar atmosphere.

Our Setting

At the Foot of Sacro Monte

Panoramic view of Sacro Monte di Varese with its baroque chapels at sunset

C'era una volta Ristò is situated in a privileged geographic and historical context, right at the start of the historic Holy Road leading up to the Sacro Monte di Varese, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003.

This extraordinary baroque devotional route, conceived in 1604 by the Capuchin friar Giovan Battista Aguggiari and designed by the brilliant Varese architect Giuseppe Bernascone, winds for about two kilometers along the mountain slopes, punctuated by 14 historic chapels decorated with frescoes and terracotta statues depicting the Mysteries of the Rosary.

Since ancient times (with a sanctuary whose origins date back to the 4th century, traditionally attributed to Saint Ambrose in gratitude for the victory over the Arians), the mount has been a spiritual and natural crossroads. Today, we gladly welcome those walking down the path and those preparing to embark on it, offering hospitality and conviviality in the spirit of typical local tradition.
